Blue Dawn Dish Washing Detergent is famous!
(only the normal-strength blue formula- not the variants) Here are a few things you should know about it. It is a soap- Always rinse thoroughly with water. A white vinegar and water mixture to remove soapy residues is even better. It is a de-greaser- One of the ingredients is a petroleum product that functions to attach itself to grease and oils so they can be rinsed away. I have heard of Blue Dawn being effective when used to clean carpets, though, except for spots, I would avoid it. It creates lots of suds so rinsing can be laborious, and as well the suds can create problems in wet vacuuming equipment. Soaps are notorious for causing souring on fabrics over time and for leaving a soap residue. (These issues are the reason that professional Carpet Cleaners use synthetic detergents, developed specifically for carpet, that avoid suds and souring and are able to be free-rinsed easily.) Besides washing dishes, there are other documented and famous uses. -Mixed with white vinegar- for cleaning showers and tubs, windows, and as an all purpose cleaner. - Insect control. When mixed with water, Blue Dawn can be used to repel insects (ants, aphids, fleas, ticks), around home and even on plants. -An occasional bath for pets. It removes fleas from dogs and has even been used to wash foul after oil spills! -As a degreaser it removes grease from hands and tools. It can remove hair product build up (occasional use), can be used as a pre-treatment for oily spots on laundry, a driveway cleaner, window cleaner, even to clean up oil based paint from fabrics! -Also to: unclog toilets, make a refreezable ice pack, as lube for door hinges, as a sidewalk deicer. The particular uses and their formula dilutions should be researched before using. I have avoided giving this info. because I am not prescribing Blue Dawn for anything in particular, but with the buzz this soap is receiving it is apparent there are many creative uses for it!

I use dawn for a lot of my cleaning needs. It is very handy at degreasing. I agree that when using it on carpets, you definitely want to avoid leaving a soapy residue behind. Thanks for the tips!
